Managing Director of onshore wind developer Bute Energy has called on the new First Minister Eluned Morgan to get to grips with the challenges holding back new renewables in Wales.
Commenting on the election of Eluned Morgan MS as First Minister for Wales, Managing Director of Bute Energy Stuart George said:
“I extend my congratulations to the new First Minister and her cabinet colleagues and wish them well.
“The First Minister and her government face a huge number of challenges, not least in progressing the government’s own energy and net zero agenda. Whilst we continue to make progress, Wales is not guaranteed to hit those targets. Wales must make a huge leap forward in the consenting of new renewable energy projects to meet those aspirations and maximise the opportunities arising from the significant investment in the coming years.
“The First Minister and her cabinet face many barriers that are holding back new renewables in Wales, whether that be stretched planning authorities, skills shortages, or the readiness of Welsh businesses to capitalise on the significant investment opportunities.”
“We have a huge opportunity to meaningfully address the climate crisis in Wales, create thousands of sustainable training and employment opportunities and invest life changing sums in Welsh communities. We need to be bold now to ensure we deliver for future generations.”
