Carmarthenshire County Council’s Road Safety Team are partnering with Smyths Toys, Llanelli, to host a FREE Child Car Seat Safety Check Clinic, on Friday, 9 August 2024, 11am – 6pm, at Smyths Toys, Llanelli.
This service is free of charge and aims to provide peace of mind to parents, guardians and those responsible for taking children in their vehicles, that their car seats are safely secured to protect their precious cargo.
Child car seat safety is of utmost importance when it comes to protecting little ones whilst travelling in a vehicle. In the UK, children must use a child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. It is essential to ensure that the seat is suitable and installed securely in your vehicle and that the seat is appropriate for your child to provide maximum protection in the event of a crash.
The Child Car Seat Safety Check Clinic will also offer guidance to parents on choosing the right seat for their child. In 2023, Good Egg Safety checked 1484 Car seats across Great Britain and found that 65% of child car seats were incorrectly fitted, therefore it is advisable to attend a checking clinic to check your child’s car seat is fitted correctly to make sure that your child is as safe as possible while travelling.
Carmarthenshire County Council accredited advisors will be at Smyths Toys, Llanelli to check and adjust your child’s car seat, ensuring it’s installed correctly and safely.
Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure Services – Cllr Edward Thomas said:
Don’t miss this opportunity to ensure your little ones are safely secured in their car seat. We are delighted to be working with shops that sell child car seats in Carmarthenshire to provide these safety checks and share specialist safety information with parents.”
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Road Safety Team is working with other shops and retailers of child car seats in the county to offer the Child Car Seat Safety Check Clinic.
