From today, AI speed cameras will be rolled out on Greater Manchester roads, as the technology becomes more widespread around the UK. Rhydian Jones, motoring expert at Confused.com car insurance comments:

“New AI speed cameras will be installed on Greater Manchester roads from today. These help catch drivers who break the law  behind the wheel, such as driving without wearing a seatbelt or for using their phone. This technology aims to help improve road safety, protecting both road users and pedestrians from dangerous drivers.

“Our research reveals that nearly half (48%) of UK drivers recognise that AI speed cameras will help make roads safer. But 1 in 5 (21%) think they’re an invasion of privacy. And although some might have reservations, the majority see its importance, as the cameras could help to crack down on distracted drivers.

“Distracted driving, like using your phone, could result in a fine and up to 6 points on your licence. But it could also result in near misses or accidents and even being banned from driving altogether. If you are fined, the amount could depend on your annual income, and if speeding, this could also be impacted by how much over the limit you were driving. Using our driving fines calculator will help you to work out how much you could be paying out if you are caught for various offences.”
