A 66-year-old year old man from Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire was sentenced to prison for 27-months at Swansea Crown Court on Tuesday August 13, 2024.
Paul Chesher of Herbrandston, Milford Haven, was found guilty of two counts of attempting to cause or incite a female child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. Chesher had pled guilty to all charges at a hearing earlier in the year.
The investigation was led by Dyfed Powys Police and supported by Tarian, the Regional Organised Crime Unit for southern Wales. Tarian had received intelligence that Chesher was engaging with someone he believed to be a pre-teenage girl online. An immediate investigation was commenced, and this resulted in the arrest of Chesher and a forensic examination of his digital devices.
Detective Constable Paul Kelly, of Dyfed Powys Police, said: “This sentence and the investigation itself demonstrated excellent collaborative working between police agencies. It sends a clear message to perpetrators that crime against children is abhorrent, and that we as police will find the perpetrators and seek justice for the children involved.”
Tarian ROCU case officer, Detective Constable Isaac Gott, said: “Our ROCU is dedicated to identifying individuals who have a sexual interest in children, and we will relentlessly pursue them. In addition to his sentence, Chesher now has a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.”
