  • Electrical Safety Fund 2024 open for applications until 1 October 2024
  • Grants can fund anything from repair shops to safety-themed theatre productions
  • Community groups encouraged to apply for grants of up to £5,000

As energy bills continue to soar, Electrical Safety First has opened applications for its 2024 Electrical Safety Fund to help people avoid electrical risks and dangers in their homes. Applications for the fund close on 1 October 2024.

The Fund offers grants of up to £5,000 to local groups and organisations for   community projects that specifically tackle electrical product risks, spread awareness about electrical safety, and promote safer consumer choices.

Last year, the Fund reached over 700,000 people and directly benefited almost 15,000 individuals through initiatives like repair cafes, portable appliance testing and replacement events, engaging experiences such as virtual reality sessions, musical productions in schools, and safety workshops.

Samuel Terry, policy and research manager at Electrical Safety First, comments: “We know that rising costs are forcing more people to rely on potentially unsafe electrical appliances or take other risks with electricity. Our funding will support projects that help people stay safe by reducing hazards and increasing awareness about electrical safety. Anyone interested should apply by 1 October 2024 to meet the deadline.”

Applications are encouraged from a range of not-for-profit organisations, including fire and rescue services, trading standards authorities, community safety organisations, charities and educational institutions. Projects that align with Electrical Safety First’s ongoing campaigns, such as “Battery Breakdown” and “Don’t Be Electricked,” are also encouraged.

Interested groups are urged to apply as soon as possible to ensure they have the best chance of success, as the Fund is open now.
