  • This comes after the local neighbours set-up solidarity fundraising in response to the protests targeting the Mosque during the widespread anti-immigrant riots in the UK last month

In a powerful show of unity, the Nasir Mosque in Hartlepool, part of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, will donate £16,000 to local charities this Saturday. This generous act follows the hostility last month targeting immigrants and Muslims across the country following the tragic mass stabbing in Southport.

Amid tensions, a protest was planned against the mosque but was peacefully dispersed by police. In response, Hartlepool resident Andrew Cooper launched a fundraiser for the mosque, aiming to raise £200. His effort inspired widespread support, quickly raising more than £13,000.

Instead of using the funds for the mosque, the entire amount and an additional £3,000 topped up by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will be donated to local charities at an event this Saturday. The charities, along with the local MP, will attend to receive the donations.Hartlepool Mosque CommunityImam Tahir Selby (Right) donating food items at the St. Aidan’s Church, Hartlepool.

Imam Tahir Selby of Nasir Mosque said:

“It has been truly heart-warming to witness the community’s love and support. For years, we’ve worked to foster understanding, and this response reaffirms our efforts. Islam teaches us to help others, so the entire amount is going to worthy causes in Hartlepool.”

For years, Nasir Mosque has been central to Hartlepool’s charitable work. Since 2020, mosque volunteers have distributed nearly 30,000 meals, including 150 meals weekly to the local Annex foodbank and St. Aidan’s Church. This commitment reflects the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s core values of compassion and service to all.
