Baby Loss Awareness Week is an annual event that takes place between 9-15 October to recognise and remember babies who have died. It’s a time for those affected locally and world-wide to unite and concludes with the global “Wave of Light” event.

The Hywel Dda University Health Board Spiritual Care department and Midwifery and Gynaecology teams are committed to supporting those affected by stillbirth, loss in pregnancy or soon after birth and to mark the lives of these special babies.

This includes parents who have lost a child, as well as their families, friends and people close to them along with healthcare staff who did or would have played an important part in their lives.

Throughout the week, battery operated blue and pink lights will be placed in the Chapels/Quiet Rooms in all our acute hospitals.

Two events have also been arranged to allow people to come together in memory of all the babies who lit up our lives for such a short time in a safe space with those who understand.

On Thursday 10 October 2024 at 4.30pm in Parc Howard, Felinfoel Road, Llanelli, SA15 3LJ a short ceremony and fresh flowers will be placed on the memorial stone dedicated to remembered babies who have died too soon.

As we are uncertain of the weather, the first part of the service will take place in the entrance foyer of Parc Howard Museum. The Health Board are grateful to Parc Howard staff, Llanelli Borough Council and Carmarthenshire County Council for their support.  Parking within the park is limited so it is recommended to use Parc Howard Avenue.

A remembrance service will take place on Tuesday 15 October at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth at 6:30pm. We would a like to invite bereaved parents, their families and friends to join us, and families across the world, to take part in the global “Wave of Light” event. A short service will be held in the Chapel followed by the lighting of a candle at 7.00pm
