Five Ways To Combat Wrinkles Without Using Botox
One day you’re wrinkle-free and the next day you wake up feeling you have aged five years in just one. Unfortunately this is an inevitable side-effect of getting older. It’s understandable why you may want to rush to make that Botox or filler appointment in the hope of erasing the years. But what about if you are apprehensive about getting injectables?
What if you’re someone who is looking for a more natural, less invasive approach to ageing or wanting some tips to use alongside your aesthetics appointments. Well below I’ve comprised a list of skincare tips to give your skin that extra help and banish those fine lines.
Microneedling – This is a firm favourite that’s not going away any time soon. This treatment when done right can be just the pick-me-up your skin needs. It can help with fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, acne scarring and stretch marks. Microneedling with PRP is also a winner, as it uses your own blood, spins it in a centrifuge, extracts the golden goodness and microneedles it directly back Into your skin. Microneedling with a CE marked hyaluronic acid such as NCTF HA can help plump up skin and hydrate. Microneedling is a firm favourite with celebs such as Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham and it’s easy to see why.
WrinklePatches – You may have seen the sesilicone wrinkle patches floating around on skinfluencer`s Tik Toks. They are applied to clean, dry skin often on the forehead, under eyes or around the mouth. The basis of these patches are to hydrate and smooth wrinkles and support the skin whilst you sleep so you don’t get those `pillow wrinkles`. They can also be used in the daytime for a few hours if you don’t want to sleep in them. Whilst these may seem like a fad they are actually a good idea and stop the skin creasing when sleeping.
Tretinoin – If you’re 30 and over it’s probably best to invest in tretinoin.Whatever creams, oils, gels, toners you use, nothing will combat wrinkles like this. If you are familiar with retinol and retinal then think of tretinoin as the big sister of those. It works faster and is stronger on your skin. Because of tretinoins strength its best to start at a lower dose of 0.025. This has been proven to work just as well as the higher doses, starting at the higher doses will irritate the skin more. If you suffer with acne and breakouts this will also help with clear the skin. However it will take your skin up to 8 weeks to acclimatise to this cream and using the sandwich method (layering a thin layer of moisturiser before and after tret) will help. If you do decide to use tretinoin make sure you don’t use other actives at the same time, and check your moisturiser doesn’t have active ingredients such as vitamin C or retinol if you use the sandwich method. Obagi do a range of tretinoins that you can purchase at your local skin clinic or online.
Hydration – Quite often the fine lines you see on your forehead are not real wrinkles at all, it’s actually your dehydrated skin. This can give your skin that crepey look. To combat this, drink plenty of fluids, use a hyaluronic acid and moisturise. Smoking, drinking and sun tanning can also cause this, so keep that in mind if you want to change the appearance of your skin and banish the crepe.
ChemicalPeels – Skin peels can help with a range of skin issues. From pigmentation to wrinkles, it’s definitely wise not to count out this treatment. Make sure you visit a professional and discuss your skin concerns before deciding on the strength and depth of the peel. Cosmelan is one type of peel that can help combat melasma – although melasma can never be cured, it is one of the more effective treatments for it. However this peel is an ongoing treatment that takes about 6 months to see the end results. Mild-medium peels can also be good for pigmentation and uneven skin tone and aren’t as time consuming as Cosmelan. Extreme peels such as the phenol deep peel penetrates all the way to the skin’s dermis and is an aggressive treatment with a longer recovery time, although the effects are more dramatic, this treatment can only be performed by a Doctor.
There are of course other tips to help with wrinkles. Using silk or satin pillowcases on your bed to stop the night-time face crease. Wearing SPF come rain or shine to protect against UV rays. Having a good skincare regime and always taking make-up off before bed.
If all else fails you can just practise resting bitch face for minimal movement and hope that gives you a few more years before starting the tox.
