Wales Climate Week returns from 11 – 15 November 2024, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss the urgent issue of adapting to climate change. This year’s event coincides with the United Nations COP29 conference and will focus on how Wales can prepare for a rapidly changing climate.

Carmarthenshire County Council is proud to support Wales Climate Week 2024, encouraging local communities, businesses, and organisations to engage with this important initiative. Whether part of the public sector, a business, a voluntary group, or an individual looking to make a difference, this is your opportunity to join the conversation and take action.

The week’s activities will include a 5-day virtual conference that explores policies and initiatives to help communities face climate challenges. Key topics will cover:

  • Day 1: Land, Agriculture, Marine, Fisheries & Nature
  • Day 2: Infrastructure (transport, energy, telecoms, and water/wastewater)
  • Day 3: Business, Economy & Finance
  • Day 4: Health & Social Care
  • Day 5: Towns, Cities & Communities

In addition to the virtual conference, Carmarthenshire County Council is pleased to announce the following events during Wales Climate Week:

Event Highlights:

  • Tuesday, 12 November 2024: Good Life Schools Programme at Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth.
A BBC film crew will be in attendance, and the footage will air on S4C’s Newyddion Ni, covering climate change and other vital topics for young people.
  • Wednesday, 13 November 2024: Climate Action Group Presentation.
Representatives from local schools will present to the full Council, sharing their Climate and Nature message, including their revised Manifesto (2024-26) and actions for change.
  • Thursday, 14 November 2024: Sustainability Discussion at Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant.
Pupils will discuss sustainability issues and tour the school’s outdoor learning space, highlighting productive growing spaces. Pupils will present their ideas to Cllr Aled, followed by a Q&A session.

There are several ways to get involved in Wales Climate Week 2024. You can attend the virtual conference, where panel sessions featuring experts from various sectors will provide insights on how Wales and the global community are addressing climate change.

Additionally, local Climate Conversation events will be held across Wales, focusing on how communities and homes can adapt to the changing climate. Organisations are encouraged to apply for funding to host these events; more details are available on the Wales Climate Week website.

Even if you can’t attend in person, support Wales Climate Week by spreading the word. Share information with friends, family, and your networks to encourage wider participation in this important initiative.

Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Decarbonisation, and Sustainability, emphasizes the importance of community engagement:

As we face the growing challenges of climate change, it is vital that we come together as a community to share ideas and take action. Wales Climate Week 2024 provides an invaluable platform for all of us—businesses, local organisations, and individuals—to collaborate towards a sustainable future.

I encourage everyone to participate, engage in discussions, and be part of the solution for a more resilient Wales. Let’s work together to create a climate-resilient future for Wales.”
