POP-UP KITCHEN FIRST FOR CETMA

West Wales based Social Enterprise CETMA have become the first organisation in Wales to use one of FareShare Cymru’s Pop-Up Kitchens.

The Pop-Up Kitchens are funded by The Welsh Government, and allows members of FareShare Cymru to take catering products to create cooking projects for their local community.   Using the kitchens, and surplus food supplied by FareShare Cymru and other sources, local communities can create delicious, healthy meals, reduce food waste and food insecurity. 

CETMA’s Kidwelly Office were the first organisation to use one when they created Spanish Style Tomato Pasta and Goats Cheese & Caramelised Onion Slices for Kidwelly Community Fridge.

Orianna Evans, CETMA Kidwelly site manager said:

“We’re proud to take part in FareShare Cymru’s Pop-Up Kitchen Project as it’s an additional way that we can support our community.”

“We use the catering food that we receive to provide one off meals for the community, not only here but wherever it’s needed.”

Laura Haines-Burke, FareShare Cymru Community Food Member’s Lead said:

“In Wales circa 400,000 tonnes of food are wasted each year.  If only 1% of that is edible it is enough to contribute to over 9 million meals. This is at a time when almost a quarter of the Welsh population are living in poverty and people are struggling to access good, nutritious food and regularly go hungry.”

“FareShare Cymru want to see that wasted food is put to good use by distributing it to disadvantaged people across Wales and the Pop-Up Kitchen Project is one just one way that we achieve this”

“We are committed to turning an environmental problem into a social solution, and we’re proud of our members, like CETMA who are committed to doing the same.”

FareShare Cymru was established in 2010 and began delivering food in July 2011. By using quality, in date surplus food which would otherwise have gone to waste, they turn an environmental problem into a social solution.
