“It’s incredibly promising to see that the Welsh Government is increasing funding for digitisation. Getting the funding is step one, the focus now needs to be on spending this money on innovative technology that will transform patient care.
“The great news is that Wales already has a good record of investing well. The Welsh Government gave Consultant Connect its first whole-country contract to roll out technology that enables primary care clinicians to access immediate advice from hospital consultants across all of Wales. Last year alone over 58,000 patients benefitted by avoiding an unnecessary hospital visit and thousands more got the care they need in hospital more quickly. This is an impressive outcome that will keep growing every year, Wales can now use this positive experience when choosing other high-impact digital initiatives.”
