New research from a property developer has found that home improvements are poised to dominate 2025 New Year’s resolutions. The survey of 2,000 adults revealed that DIY makes up nearly two-fifths (39%) of all ambitions for the 12 months ahead, even surpassing career goals.
What’s more, on average, those surveyed spent 24 minutes chatting about these projects every week.
A spokesman for the developer said: “Home improvements are very much in people’s minds as they look to adjust and enhance where they live.”
One in 10 plans a redecoration scheme, while one in four felt that hosting over Christmas would leave them thinking about upsizing in 2025. Whatever your plans, if you get going now, you’ll be able to feel the benefit of having improved your home come the spring and summer.
Here are some of the projects you could consider:
- Loft conversions
Property portal Zoopla named loft conversions as one of the most profitable home improvements when it came to upping a property’s value. And there are many benefits, since these enhancements are typically quick to complete, avoid the hassle and expense of moving home, and create flexible extra space you can use as a bathroom, bedroom, gym, office or playroom. So it’s no wonder so many of us are seeking loft conversion quotes.
- External blinds
External blinds provide shade and, as the name suggests, go on the outside of a building. They regulate how much heat and sunlight can get inside. Typically made with fibreglass and aluminium, they’re adjustable, allowing you to control how much light and heat enters your property.
They intercept and reflect sunlight before it hits the windows, reducing glare and blocking solar heat. The barrier created between the inside and outside of a building keeps the indoor temperature consistently cool, so that you don’t need to do this artificially, for example with air conditioning.
But if you have roller models, light will get in, plus you can still see out of your windows.
Thanks to external blinds UK homeowners can reduce heat and prevent overheating sustainably, while maintaining natural light and views outside. Many of these devices are also compatible with smart home automation, and if you keep them in a reasonable condition, they’ll improve your home’s value.
Fit them over large windows and doors, skylights and across outdoor living areas.
- Teak garden benches
A teak garden bench is a classic staple for the garden, and a real draw for you, your family and visitors. Enjoy a moment of reflection, a quiet morning coffee or afternoon cuppa, having somewhere peaceful to read outdoors, or a chance to catch up with someone in the fresh air.
High-grade teak can last for decades without needing a drop of furniture oil to keep it looking its glorious best, especially if you go for the finest heartwood timber, since it resists moisture brilliantly. Plus there are many sizes and styles of benches from which to choose, from two to four-seater models and contemporary or more traditional-looking designs.
You’ll enjoy comfort, a strong aesthetic appeal and a low-maintenance piece of furniture which completes the look of your garden and creates a special place where you can just sit and pause for a brief moment.
