With New Year in full swing, millions of us will be setting new aspirations for 2025. Self-care is a great way to feel good inside and out, but what resolutions are Brits making when it comes to our hair and beauty regimes?
To start January on the right foot, Hair and Beauty Insurance experts, Ripe, have delved into online search trends to reveal the beauty resolutions we’re making for 2025, with tips from beauty experts to make your goals into long-term habits.
Using average online monthly searches and Google Trends data, the research shows what’s most important to us when it comes to the changes and burning questions around our beauty and self-care regimes.
The top five hair and beauty resolutions for 2025
-
Nailing your hair wash routine
On average, there are 9,600 monthly combined online searches around how often we should be washing our hair. With reams of conflicting information online, hair specialist, Kate Ross, explains how to find your ideal hair washing schedule to set you on the right foot for the rest of the year:
“There is no definitive answer to how often you should wash your hair, as it depends on factors like hair type, scalp health, and lifestyle. Identify these factors to choose the right products and washing techniques, including scalp cleansing and water temperature.
“Consistency in your hair care routine is key. Use high-quality hair oils or leave-in treatments to lock in moisture and minimise breakage. A silk pillowcase can reduce friction and prevent damage during sleep.
“Consider the time of year: in colder months, your scalp produces less oil, allowing for less frequent washing. In summer, you may need to wash more often due to sweat and humidity. Dry shampoo can be helpful between washes, especially if you work out frequently.
“If in doubt, consult your hairdresser for tailored advice.”

Prioritising hair growth
Personal growth is not the only self-development on the cards for the upcoming year. Long, luscious locks are still a big goal for 2025 with a combined 4,900 online searches every month around the topic. In fact, searches for ‘how to make hair grow quicker’ have increased by more than 3,000% in the past thirty days, suggesting that we’re looking for ways to prioritise hair growth in January. Unfortunately, there’s no real quick fix for fast hair growth as Kate explains:
“Growing your hair takes time so you’re unlikely to notice any dramatic results in a matter of weeks but don’t be disheartened! As a rule, start by making sure you’re prioritising your health with a well-balanced diet and supplements designed to promote hair growth. Factor in scalp care, book regular trims at your hairdresser and make sure to protect your hair from heat to keep your locks healthy and encourage growth.”
-
Putting an end to nail biting
There are on average 2,800 monthly searches of those looking to curb their nail biting habits. But what is the best way to reign it in? Nail biting can be related to stress, boredom, anxiety or nerves so it’s important to identify any underlying issues with the help of your GP if that’s the case.
Nail Technician, Lyssa Moss, adds “To minimize nail biting try to keep your nails short and clean and regularly moisturise your hands to prevent the temptation to pick. There’s lots of bitter nail polishes on the market to help curb the habit and I’d recommend keeping a nail file to hand where possible. It might also be a good idea to introduce a distraction to keep your hands busy whether it’s with a fidget spinner, stress ball or a new hands-on hobby.
“Keep up with regular manicures using builder gel as this will help to curb the urge to bite when your nails are overlayed in a builder gel as there’s no longer any edges to bite on. For anyone who doesn’t get manicures the best thing to do would be to keep up with nail filing and cuticle oiling to avoid any sharp or dry edges that might encourage you to bite or pull.”
-
SPF for skin and hair
Beauty enthusiasts are continuing to embrace SPF not just in the summer months but all year round as an essential part of their regime. There are around 740 monthly searches for facial SPF which is a key part of a healthy skincare routine. However, Ripe’s research also shows a 130% increase for searches year on year for ‘scalp sunscreen powder’. Melissa Savage at Ripe explains:
“While most of us incorporate some form of SPF into our skincare routine, the scalp and hair are often overlooked when it comes to protection from the sun. The skin on our scalp is an extension of our face which means it’s just as susceptible to burning and damage which can wreak havoc on your hair health and have potentially more damaging long-term effects.”
-
Active skincare
Searches for active skincare also top the list with around 520 combined monthly searches. Some of the most popular active skincare ingredients include retinol, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid and more. These ingredients are designed to target specific skin concerns like acne, hyperpigmentation or dry skin and are often found in serums, toners and creams.
Melissa adds “Identifying the right skincare actives can feel overwhelming so I’d always recommend speaking with a qualified beauty therapist to make sure you’re safely using the right ingredients for your needs. Setting up a new year facial can be a great way to kick start 2025 and help you identify what products you should be using in your new regime going forward.”
What other beauty resolutions can you make in 2025?
Ripe’s research also shows that many of us will be aiming to make our beauty routines more sustainable in 2025 with a 140% increase in searches for ‘sustainable beauty brands’ this month as we look to change up our routines for the new year. So, whether it’s switching to bar shampoos or zero waste packaging, embracing sustainable beauty can be a simple way to make a change for yourself and the environment.
Cleaning your makeup brushes is also a great way to start January. By making sure all your beauty tools are clean, you’ll avoid exposing your skin to potentially harmful bacteria and this will help to keep your face looking clean and blemish free.
Lastly, prioritising your overall health is the perfect way to support your beauty and hair routine. Good sleep, hydration and nutrition are essential to supporting how you feel, which impacts how we look.
