The winners of the inaugural What Wallcharger? Awards have been announced, revealing the best home chargers currently on sale in the UK.
What Wallcharger? was born out of the idea to create an information hub to help consumers navigate myriad products that seemingly do the same thing: charge an electric vehicle.
In October last year, Allan Pattison (co-founder of EVO Magazine), Patrick Fuller (former editor of Autocar) and Liam O’Neill (former Jaguar Land Rover) launched the What Wallcharger? Awards to identify the best chargers on the market in 2024.
In association with Kerbo Charge and ClickMechanic, an expert panel of judges, made up of senior automotive and publishing figures, came together to create a rigorous and independent judging system to test the best wall chargers to determine the winners across 12 categories including the prestigious Best Charger Award.
The categories recognise individual aspects of chargers including best app, solar integration, connectivity, build quality, aftersales and support, value for money and reliability, with the aim of helping consumers distinguish the features and designs that best suit their needs.
Patrick Fuller, Co-founder of What Wallcharger?, said: “It is a great feeling to announce the winners of our first awards, which we hope will become a landmark event for the electric vehicle and charging industry while delivering significant value for consumers.
“When we launched in January 2024, our mission was clear: to guide anyone looking to purchase an electric vehicle charger in making the right choice, whether they’re first-time EV users or seasoned adopters upgrading to their second charger. Wall chargers have come a long way in recent years and many early adopters are already on to their next one.
“While there’s plenty of consumer advice about EVs, clear and jargon-free information on chargers remains scarce and often overlooked. With so many new designs and features, like tariff and solar integration, it’s easy for the topic to feel overwhelming. We want to make navigating these options simpler and more engaging.
