STARTING the year by decluttering, tidying, cleaning, and sorting  can help clear your mind and make room for new trends.
But how?
According to Kate Conrad, one of the country’s leading homeware experts, Interior trends are becoming increasingly creative, as a lot of property owners express themselves through decor.
Kate, the the owner of luxury homeware brand Madison & Mayfair, said: “Without taking a look at our current decor and assessing what we like, what we no longer enjoy, and where we can make room for new and improved trends, we could risk our home feeling outdated or overcrowded.”
Here, Kate, shares the new trends for 2025 and how we can incorporate them into our home.
Gallery Walls
“Gallery walls are becoming a key staple in 2025. Their creative nature allows people to explore lots of different styles and themes.
“From contemporary prints to traditional paintings, you can craft a space that perfectly combines mismatched decor with a themed core.
“Blend prints with paintings and embrace different sized frames. You don’t need to be rigid with the structural layout of the wall art, either, and with varying frame styles and colours you can add even more originality to your gallery wall.
“Add quirky clocks to the display, too, and watch as a room transforms into one bursting with colour, personality and vibrancy.
“Start by deciding which of your current art pieces you wish to keep, and perhaps where some are taking up wall space and could be replaced with a collage. You could also give your walls a lick of paint before hanging up your gallery wall, for a total fresh start.”
Reading Nooks
“2025 is the year of the cosy reading nook. A lot of us are ditching our home offices for a more usable space as we step further away from working from home.
“I’m seeing a lot of people build these spaces with a bookshelf as the key feature or wall backdrop, perfect for instantly creating a library feeling.
“With dark hues, like rich burgundies and purples and navies, or dark woods, the intimate setting is easily achieved. Then, with a stylish armchair as the centrepiece, along with an antique coffee table and lamp, the look is complete.
“Our mental health is more and more widely spoken about, and a lot of the time we are told we need to prioritise rest, recovery, and taking a break from our screens, which is also why the reading room is becoming a big part of our home’s layout.
“Clear out that home office, or the area in your home that you want to use as your reading area, and decide how you can most cleverly make the most of the space – perhaps there’s room for a chest of drawers or an ottoman to add extra storage options.”
Textured Materials
“Step away from minimalism and embrace rich and full decor in 2025. This is where texture is going to feature in our homes.
“Do you have any wallpaper that’s outdated? Or painted walls that just feel a little flat? Then opt for a patterned and textured wallpaper to add fullness to the base layer of a room.
“Then, use a huge rug to ensure there is texture from the base upwards, and implement texture throughout the middle of the room too.
“This entails adding accessories in different materials, such as clashing throws and cushions, woven baskets, wooden cabinets, and glass vases.
“The combination of materials is what adds character to a home, so if you have a decor theme that is perhaps too well matched, substitute some items for totally different and contrasting pieces.”
Statement Fabrics
“Again, where we have opted for more minimal designs over recent years, it’s time to change it up with some statement fabrics,” says Conrad.
“Start with your curtains. There’s nothing bolder and more eye-catching than a statement pattern on your curtains to add a focal point to a room.
“Whether you prefer florals or abstract designs, you can style the rest of the room around a statement fabric.
“This works particularly well in bedrooms, where you can have a more playful bedspread. This really creates a more charismatic decor theme, offering a confident, striking feel.
“With this trend, having a declutter can ensure you don’t have an overcrowded space when adding in more pattern and colour.”
Colour Drenching
“Finally, 2025 is the year to be different. Why not opt for the colour drenching trend, one that only those who like to be brave with their decor will most likely embrace.
“This means choosing one colour for a room and using that throughout – so, choose carefully!
“With beiges and creams, a lot of our homes lost their spark, but through colour drenching in a rich, vibrant colour, our homes can come back to life.
“You may need to assess the natural lighting, so that you don’t create an overly dark space, and consider whether you have the suitable accessories and furniture to suit this trend.”
