For those who do their beauty treatments at home, TikTok can be an essential source of learning, inspiration and trends.

Now, experts from Ripe Hair & Beauty have identified a DIY nail art hack that is going viral on the app. Collaborating with a qualified nail technician, they reveal if it’s worth giving it a go.

In a video with over 15.3 million views and 1.2 million likes, user hannah.bausch, shares her tip to create effortless yet intricate nail art without struggling.

Hannah’s method involves painting the designs in gel directly onto cling film before curing under an LED lamp, peeling off with tweezers and applying to the nail before curing with a top coat.

In the video, Hannah uses the classic bow manicure as an example which Pinterest revealed is the most-searched manicure with searches for ‘bow nail designs’ up by 2220% in the last year.

Over 4,000 people have commented on the video as many praised the hack and shared their experience trying it out.

“I do it on my French tips silicone thingy cure for a second or two then dab it on”

“Excuuuuuse this is genius !!!! I love it here “

“You mean I’ve been practicing becoming ambidextrous for NOTHING “

So does it actually work? Nail Technician Lyssa Moss who works with Ripe Hair & Beauty says “This is a very similar method to applying nail stickers and I do think it’s something that can work if you’re doing your own nails at home. I think the best way to apply these would be onto a sticky cured base coat rather than just a tacky layer of colour coat as this would help it adhere properly and make your nail art last longer.

“If the design is quite thick it would need to be capped really well with a top coat or even another base coat and top coat to make sure it lasts. It looks like a really good alternative if nail art is difficult but the drawback would be that it may not last as long on the nail as applying directly as normal.”
