On Tuesday, 4th February, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service along with partner agencies, will be carrying out a multi-agency exercise to check and test emergency response plans, protocols and procedures in the event of a major incident, at the Gwili Railway site in Abergwili, Carmarthenshire.
Many partner agencies representatives will be in attendance and participating in the exercise, including Dyfed-Powys Police, Carmarthenshire County Council, Hywel Dda University Health Board, Glangwili Hospital, and Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust.
There will be increased levels of activity in the area and around Glangwili Hospital on the day, between the hours of 8am and 6pm but please be assured there is nothing to be alarmed about.
Head of Western Division Andrew Davies said:
“Multi-agency exercises are vital training opportunities to ensure that our emergency plans are robust and that we and our partner agencies are prepared for any potential major incident that could affect our communities.
We hope to never be in a position where these plans need to be utilised in response to a real incident, but it’s extremely important that we are prepared to respond should the moment arise. Exercises like this are an important part of our work to keep the public safe, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation.
We want to reassure residents that this is a planned training activity and not a live incident.”
Arrangements for the exercise will commence today, Monday 3rd February at Gwili Railway, and the public are asked to please avoid the area until Friday. There will be no public access to the site during this time.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to enhance our emergency response capabilities.
