On Sunday, 2nd February Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) crew members took part in a breathing apparatus (BA) training exercise named ‘Holy Smoke’, held at Capel Sul in Kidwelly.
The exercise allowed the crew to practice their responses when dealing with incidents at complex derelict buildings. Capul Sul was the prime location to provide a realistic environment for the crew. It allowed them to test their Breathing Apparatus (BA) sets, Incident Command procedures, perform snatch rescues, challenging entrapment rescues and more.
Station Liaison Officer Emyr Davies said:
“The exercise at ‘Capel Sul’ was a huge success and provided a great opportunity for our crews to practice and perform rescues within a complex building. All attendees worked tirelessly to test our procedures in a realistic environment, providing a platform for excellent learning opportunities which were then discussed during the debrief at the end of the exercise.”
Emyr continued:
“We would like to thank Leigh Hipkiss from Reflect Education for allowing us to use the premises for the exercise. Also, thank you to both Reflect Education and Gravells in Kidwelly for their continuous support when releasing on call firefighters to attend emergency calls”
