The Guilty Men

Carmarthen’s Lyric Theatre will be rocking to the sound of The Guilty Men on Sunday 2nd March at 7:30pm, as the band visit the town as part of their UK tour.

The Guilty Men are a true modern-day supergroup, featuring five of the finest musicians from the Northwest of England, with over 10,000 gigs, thousands of recordings, and countless radio and TV appearances between them. Formed by Any Trouble’s Clive Gregson and The Cheaters’ Neil Cossar, the band also includes Paul Burgess (drummer for 10cc since 1973), keyboardist Jez Smith and bassist Craig Fletcher (John Lees’ Barclay James Harvest).

The story of The Guilty Men dates back to Manchester in 1979, when Clive Gregson and Neil Cossar first crossed paths through mutual friend John Martin, bassist for The Cheaters. At the time, Clive was fronting Any Trouble, while Neil played guitar in The Cheaters. With one band owning a PA system and the other a van, they often shared resources and stages, forming a lasting friendship. Both bands went on to secure major record deals, with Any Trouble signing to Stiff Records and The Cheaters to EMI, releasing multiple albums and touring extensively. In the years that followed, Clive carved out a successful career, releasing over 20 solo albums and working as a producer and session musician in Nashville for 15 years. Neil transitioned into radio, PR, and music publishing, launching the popular brand, This Day in Music.

Fast forward to 2021 when Clive and Neil reunited over lunch and decided to try writing songs together. What started as a creative experiment quickly evolved into something more. They soon enlisted Smith, Fletcher, and Burgess, forming a full band – The Guilty Men – and hit the studio.

Released in 2024, the band’s debut album Invisible Confetti features 13 brand-new songs recorded live in the studio, capturing the energy and spontaneity of the moment. Most tracks were recorded in just two or three takes, embracing a sound that is both vibrant and timeless. With four lead vocalists, the album offers an eclectic mix of rock, Americana, country, folk, pop, and psychedelia: a thrilling, genre-spanning experience.
