Dear Editor,

For any readers keen to support families left with nowhere to live because of disaster and conflicts around the world, here’s one way they can make a difference.

ShelterBox has partnered with PARC to provide tents, tarpaulins, ropes, mattresses and blankets to displaced families in Gaza

Every year at the international disaster relief charity ShelterBox we hold a very special fundraising appeal called Tent for Lent. The ask is simple, give something up during Lent and donate the money saved to help families who’ve lost their homes to earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and conflict.

ShelterBox and Islamic Relief supported people with tents following severe flooding in Pakistan

For many, Lent is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and give back and we’re always so humbled by every single person who gives up their time so we can continue to reach families in need of shelter.

What I love most about our Tent for Lent appeal is seeing the incredible creativity and dedication of our supporters each year. We’ve had fundraisers give up their beds to camp outside in the snow. Others have gone on a digital detox, held sponsored swimathons, or litter picked every day for 40 days to raise money for ShelterBox.

Working alongside vital partners MAP, SDF and PARC, ShelterBox is providing tents to people displaced in Gaza.

Every penny raised helps us give a foothold to people to rebuild and recover after disaster with shelter and essential items like mosquito nets, solar lights, and blankets.

  • £15 can fund a solar light – when families are left in darkness
  • £60 can fund a water filter – when all people have is dirty water
  • £405 can fund a family tent – when whole families are left without a home
ShelterBox provided emergency aid to people like Osbert whose homes were flattened by Hurricane Beryl

People can sign up individually or as a group online at Tent for Lentappeal – ShelterBox and we’ll send them everything needed to get started – and inspire others to join in.
