New research has revealed the postcodes with the highest crime rates in Wales, with Shrewsbury taking the number one spot.

ADT, the home security provider, identified the un-safest locations by analysing 12 months of data (August ’23 to July ’24) from its Crime in My Area tool, and combining this with population figures from the Census to calculate crimes-per-person.

Across the UK, there were 4.1m recorded crimes during this period, with an average crime rate of 152 per 1,000 people.

However, some postcodes reported far higher numbers, with SY1 1 in Shrewsbury leading the way with 1,095 crimes per 1,000 people. Over the 12 months, there were 25 burglaries per 1,000 people.
