Since Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) handed down the famed shield to The Falcon, aka Sam Willson (Anthony Mackie), many questions have arisen. For myself, the biggest question has been: Will the continuation of Captain America succeed in the MCU?
If asked this question, I would say, “At least until after Avengers: Secret Wars and the soft reboot begins.”
Viewing Captain America Brave New World, even though I never favoured Captain America, the -change has been challenging-. I have no issues with an African American in the role of Cap. I’m just a creature of habit.
Compared to the previous trilogy, I did have a good time with this fourth-story addition. The story moved at a brisk pace. The action was a little hard to swallow once or twice. But other than that, it was a lot of fun.
I feel that Anthony Mackie has acclimated to the role of a fish in a new tank. -I firmly believe he will do very well if Marvel and Disney guide him in the right direction-.
I could say the same thing for Harrison Ford. Since the unfortunate death of William Hurt, Marvel has needed to choose wisely for an actor to continue as General Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross. Ford is the perfect casting choice for this character. Well, that’s my opinion in that case. As you know, the General now turned President debuts as Red Hulk in this movie. Honestly,-it’s as if Red Hulk jumped right out of the comic book pages-. Of the entirety of this two-hour movie, this is what I enjoyed the most. I like William Hurt, but seriously. Why wasn’t Ford cast when the MCU began? It’s my opinion that he fits the role perfectly. Unfortunately, we don’t get a lot of Red Hulk. But Harrison Ford is 82 years old. We can’t expect too much of him at this entry point. But I think he’s tough enough to pull it off. Things may change when the soft reboot happens anyway.
Brave New World introduces the new Falcon. Aka, Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez). I’m not one hundred per cent sold on this character right now, but I’m sure he’ll grow on me. He’s a little cockey. He has a bit of a mouth on him. But the endearing thing about him is he’s willing to make a big sacrifice. He has your back and is willing to put himself in harm’s way. No matter how much you tell him not to. To sum up, he’s a bit of a pain in the butt, but he has a good heart.
Returning to the MCU, we have Dr Samual Sterns, Aka The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson). You may remember him from the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk. If you ask me, I’ve always found The Leader quite irritating. More of a nuisance than an actual villain. Although I do, however, feel a sense of closure. Which I’m sure many do since it took seventeen years to find out what actually happened to him since then.
On the whole, I would not complain if he returned for future MCU projects.
Overall, I would give Captain America: Brave New World 3/5 stars. Mainly because it’s not a long movie. The runtime is under two hours, and I don’t feel they didn’t do enough with the Red Hulk. I would’ve liked to see Bruce Banner and the Hulk make an appearance as well.
