Hackers love illegal WWE streams – Here’s how they STEAL your data

Expert warns against illegal streaming of WWE’s Raw Netflix event this week

WWE’s Raw is streaming on Netflix in the UK as part of the WWE’s International Road to WrestleMania 41 tour. Raw is the first in several European shows leading up to the WrestleMania event. Many people may opt for illegal streaming to avoid Netflix’s subscription fees, but experts warn against this. 

Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator PRO S.L, says,  

“With an event as popular as WWE Raw, many people want to be able to watch the event as soon as it airs at 7pm. 

“However, it is important that viewers do not stream the show illegally and make sure they are watching it through Netflix. 

“Streaming events without proper licensing violates intellectual property laws, meaning users could face hefty fines or even criminal charges for doing so. Under the Digital Economy Act 2017, individuals providing illegal streaming can face unlimited fines and up to ten years in prison.

“As well as legal consequences, there are many cybersecurity threats to be aware of when streaming illegally.

“Illegal sites often contain pop-up adverts that can install ransomware, viruses, or other malware. These sites are often unsecure, which can make it easier for hackers to access your personal data. They can then use this to impersonate you in many ways, such as hijacking your social media accounts, taking out loans in your name, or committing tax fraud.

“Phishing scams are also a huge risk, with sites tricking users into entering personal information, such as credit card details or passwords. These can then be stolen and used without your permission, causing you to lose a huge amount of money just to watch the event for free.

“Also, make sure you are not using someone else’s Netflix account to watch the event, as this can cause the account holder to have their account banned altogether for misusing the service. 

“Make sure that if you are watching the WWE Raw event tonight, you are choosing a legal and legitimate streaming platform.”
