A growing threat from emerging and endemic diseases to UK livestock, coupled with targets to reduce antibiotic use, has led to the integration of two leading biosecurity and animal health firms to enhance disease protection.

Roam Technology, the global leader behind the well-known drinking water disinfectant Huwa-San TR-50, has integrated Biocidas Biodegradables Zix (BBZix), a Spanish specialist in biosecurity and livestock nutritional performance solutions, into its business. This strategic move creates a broader range of biodegradable hygiene and nutritional solutions to safeguard animal health and productivity in the UK.

Critical Time for Livestock Biosecurity

The integration comes as UK farmers face mounting disease challenges alongside a range of endemic diseases already present on many livestock farms.

Nigel Bennet, Livestock Area Manager for Northern Europe at Roam Technology, warns that the UK livestock industry is at a critical moment:

“Increasing pressure is on farms to produce more from less, with rising costs and the removal of subsidy payments. Couple this with a growing number of devastating diseases affecting or threatening UK farms, and there has never been a more crucial time for a joined-up approach to biosecurity and animal health solutions,” he said.

“Specifically on pig farms, we are also seeing the added challenge of the removal of ZnO, with anecdotal reports of increased disease issues on pig units. This would support the increase in antibiotic use highlighted in the latest Veterinary Antimicrobial Resistance and Sales Surveillance (VARSS) report released last year.”

By combining expertise and innovation, the integration enables Roam Technology to deliver a more comprehensive, science-driven approach to disease prevention.

“This integration strengthens our ability to offer farmers a toolkit to protect their animals and businesses. Our growing range of cutting-edge cleaning, disinfectant, and performance solutions, backed by a large veterinary team and expert field force, means we are well-positioned to help livestock farmers tackle disease risks more effectively, supporting farm resilience and productivity,” Mr Bennet added.

What This Means for UK Farmers

The expanded product portfolio covers cleaning, disinfectant, and nutritional performance solutions  – the three pillars of Roam Technology – to improve animal health. Their flagship products include:

  • Roam Eco Power – a foam cleaner that is eco certified thanks to its eco-friendly composition. It is ideally suited for the removal of organic deposits on a wide variety of materials in livestock.
  • Huwa-San TR-50 – a highly effective, and market-leading DEFRA-approved drinking water disinfectant and biocide based on silver-stabilised hydrogen peroxide. It can also be used for air and surface disinfection.
  • Azix Plus – a water acidifier made from buffered organic acids that lower water pH, enhancing feed digestion and nutrient absorption while preventing water quality deterioration caused by microorganisms. Enriched with minerals and essential oils, it also improves palatability.
  • Dysanzix – a herb-based feed supplement improving pig performance, and supporting microbial gut composition.

Roam Technology also provides dosing and measuring solutions to ensure correct product usage, along with a training platform and expert guidance from its experienced sales team.

With the reduction of antibiotics, rising consumer expectations, and climate change all influencing livestock farming, Roam Technology is committed to helping UK farmers stay ahead of disease threats while improving efficiency and sustainability.

“This integration ensures that farmers have access to innovative, science-backed solutions to safeguard their animals, businesses, and the future of UK livestock farming. There is no golden bullet to improving animal health, but we hope that by offering the solutions to keep diseases from entering farms through our biodegradable cleaning and disinfectant products, and through our nutritional performance solutions, we can help keep animals healthy, happy, and productive,” Mr Bennet added.
