Operation Spotlight

Dyfed-Powys Police have joined police forces across the UK in the national Operation Spotlight campaign, coordinated by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC).
This ongoing initiative aims to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on our roads by targeting criminal use of the roads and highlighting the dangers of the “Fatal 5” behaviours – speeding, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use, not wearing seatbelts, and careless driving.

The first engagement event, held in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, on Friday, April 4, saw around 70 vehicles stopped and thoroughly examined by specialist roads policing officers in collaboration with inspectors from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). This operation focuses on ensuring that vehicles meet safety standards and drivers adhere to road traffic laws, contributing to the overall safety of all road users. During the operation, 25 traffic offence reports (TORs) were issued by police, and 18 vehicles were issued with either immediate or temporary prohibition notices by DVSA inspectors.

“We are committed to tackling dangerous driving and ensuring that all drivers on our roads are safe and compliant with the law,” said Inspector Dawn Fencott-Price. “Operation Spotlight is an important initiative to raise awareness of the Fatal 5 and reduce the number of serious and fatal collisions on our roads. Our officers will continue to be proactive in addressing these risks and working to make our roads safer for everyone.”
We will continue to work alongside the NPCC and other partners to raise awareness, target dangerous driving behaviour, and ultimately save lives.
